  SOLVING COMPOUND INEQUALITIES
Now we put both inequalities together.

x < -3 or x > 4 2/3

Read “x” is less than -3 or greater than 4 and 2/3.

Another way to write those expressions is to use the following notation:

(-∞, -3)∪(4 2/3, ∞) where (-∞, -3) represents all real numbers less than –3, ∪ represents union (join together) and finally (4 2/3, ∞) represents all real numbers greater than 4 2/3.
