  ABSOLUTE VALUE
Let’s do one more absolute value problem.

Solve for x when |-2x – 8| > 4.

Solution: Step 1: Recall the definition of absolute value of x (Rollover the Definition button to the right to review the absolute value definition).

With the absolute value definition in mind, do the following:

-4 > |-2x – 8| > 4

But, that is not correct because -4 is not greater than 4. That should raise a flag. But let’s think, that process is correct so something must be missing. What could be missing?

The answer is, “or” is missing!
