Here’s an important note
to consider: Because the pool is ½ filled already, in order to
complete the job, there is only 1 – ½ = ½ of the
pool left to fill.
Let x represent the time that it takes
to complete the rest of the job.
It will take an additional 22½ hours to fill up the pool with
the drain pipe left open. Now don’t forget to add the 9 hours
that it took to fill ½ the pool.
Thus 9 hours + 22½ hours = 31½ hours.
Conclusion: It will take 31½ hours
to fill the pool under these conditions. |
