INTRODUCTION
TO AERODYNAMICS |
|
One definition of aerodynamics is “the
study of the forces exerted on and the flow around bodies moving relative
to a gas.” How about a simpler definition – the science
of flight. The word comes from two Greek words: airios – concerning
the air – and dynamis – meaning powerful.
When an object as heavy as a commercial jet can be lifted into the
air and controlled on a cross-country journey, powerful forces are
at work. The study of aerodynamics helps us to understand how this
journey is accomplished. |
