FLIGHT
MANEUVERING - YAW |
|
Yaw is the displacement of the tail
of the aircraft (remember the aircraft can move in three directions,
unlike ground travel). The pilot uses the rudder to yaw the aircraft
left or right.
The pilot can use rudder inputs to keep the aircraft tracking on a
runway centerline during a crosswind (when the wind is not blowing
directly down the runway). Sometimes you may see this in high crosswind
conditions when it appears the aircraft is not pointing toward the
runway, but instead looks like it is flying sideways (called “crabbing
into the wind”). |
