We will start Conic sections
with a discussion of the ellipse. An ellipse is the set of all points
(x, y) in the plane such that the sum of the distances from (x, y) to
two fixed points is a constant, we end up with the familiar formula:
which is the standard equation of an ellipse centered at
the origin (0,0) where a and b are some positive constants. |
