A parabola is the collection
of all points P in the plane that are equidistant from a fixed line (the
directrix – a given line not through the focus) and a fixed point
called the focus.
The standard form of a parabola with vertex
at (0,0) is as follows:
x2 = 4py focus (0, p) ; directrix y = -p axis
of symmetry x = 0
y2 = 4px focus (p,0) ; directrix x = -p axis of symmetry
y = 0 |
