WINGS
AND CONTROL SURFACES - SPOILERS |
|
Spoilers are small control surfaces
that pop up into the air stream to help “spoil” lift or
create additional drag on the wing surface. Aircraft often have spoilers
in their design to help in a turn. By "spoiling" the lift
on one wing, the lift from the other will cause the aircraft to turn.
On landing you can watch the spoilers pop up on the top of the
wing - this helps slow the aircraft on the runway and "dumps"
the lift to ensure that the plane stays firmly on the ground.
