WINGS AND CONTROL SURFACES - AILERONS

The control surfaces on wings that assist the pilot in turning the aircraft are the ailerons. Located on the trailing edge of the wings, the ailerons deflect up or down as the pilot adds control inputs to turn the aircraft. The aileron that is deflected down increases lift on its wing while the aileron deflected up decreases lift allowing the aircraft to turn in the direction of the deflected up aileron.
