WINGS AND CONTROL SURFACES - HORIZONTAL STABILIZER

Aircraft have horizontal stabilizers in their design to “balance” the aircraft in flight. With the wings producing lift, the aircraft would potentially be unstable in flight without the horizontal stabilizer. The aircraft nose (front end) could pivot too much up or down due to the lift generated by the wings without the stabilizing influence of the horizontal stabilizer, making the pilot’s job of flying much more difficult.
