WINGS AND CONTROL SURFACES - VERTICAL STABILIZER

The control surface on the empennage used to help the aircraft fly in a straight line is the vertical stabilizer. The vertical stabilizer acts in conjunction with other control surfaces, such as the rudder and trim tabs (defined next), to help the aircraft fly straight without the pilot having to constantly making corrections to his yoke (steering wheel).
