WINGS AND CONTROL SURFACES - RUDDER

The rudder is used to deflect the air to one side of the aircraft or the other. Similar to a rudder on a ship or boat, the rudder helps turn the aircraft to the right or left. Used in conjunction with the ailerons, the rudder is moved to deflect the nose of the aircraft left or right as the pilot initiates a turn.
