WINGS AND CONTROL SURFACES - TRIM TABS

Trim tabs are little control surfaces that are used to help stabilize the aircraft in flight. The pilot feels feedback (a pushing or pulling) from his yoke telling him the aircraft is not balanced. The pilot uses trim tabs to balance the aircraft and remove the feedback.

Trim tabs are often installed on the horizontal stabilizer, rudder, and ailerons to allow the aircraft to fly more smoothly in flight. Without trim tabs, you would feel the aircraft constantly move up or down and left or right, as the pilot would be making constant corrections to maintain straight and level flight.
