REVIEW
OF AERODYNAMIC TERMS - HORIZONTAL STABILIZER |
|
Aircraft have horizontal stabilizers
in their design to “balance” the aircraft in flight. With
the wings producing lift, the aircraft would potentially be unstable
in flight without the horizontal stabilizer. The aircraft nose (front
end) would pivot too much up or down due to the lift generated by
the wings. Without the stabilizing influence of the horizontal stabilizer,
the pilot’s job of flying would be much more difficult. |
