REVIEW OF AERODYNAMIC TERMS - ELEVATORS

Despite their name, elevators are not vehicles for transporting people up or down on aircraft. Elevators are control surfaces on the trailing edge of the horizontal stabilizer used to make the aircraft go up or down. The elevators deflect the airflow over their surface to pitch the aircraft up or down.
