REVIEW
OF AERODYNAMIC TERMS - VERTICAL STABILIZER |
|
The control surface on the empennage
that helps the aircraft fly straight is the vertical stabilizer (or
tail of the aircraft). The vertical stabilizer acts in conjunction
with other control surfaces, such as the rudder and trim tabs (defined
next), to help the aircraft fly straight—otherwise, the pilot
would have to continually make corrections to the yoke (steering wheel). |
