ORIGINS
AND EARLY MILITARY USES |
|
In 1300, rockets were in the arsenals of
many Western European countries. By 1500 they could be found in Italy,
then Germany, and later, the British Isles. A 1647 study, titled "The
Art of Gunnery," contains a 43-page segment on rockets and rocketry.
In the Siege of Orleans, during the Hundred Year War, the French army
used rockets against the British. The Dutch began to use rockets in their
military around 1650, and Germany’s first military rocket experiments
came in 1668. |
