SPACECRAFT AND MISSIONS OF ESA

In addition to helping build and maintain the ISS, the ESA furthers many international objectives in space. Spacecraft of the European Space Agency that are either operational or due for launch -- in approximate order of launch and project -- include:

The Hubble Space Telescope (NASA & ESA) 1990. Europe’s astronomers continue to benefit from guaranteed use of this visible-light space telescope, due to ESA’s partnership and practical contributions to the project.

Ulysses (ESA & NASA, built in Europe) 1990. The first spacecraft to fly over the poles of the Sun has provided new knowledge of the solar wind and its magnetism.

Hubble and Ulysses 1990.
