THE
SCIENCE BEHIND FLIGHT - THE TAKEOFF PHASE OF FLIGHT |
|
We owe our better understanding of the
principles of lift today to the research and insight of a Swiss physicist
named Daniel Bernoulli.
Bernoulli never heard of an aircraft (he lived in the 18th century),
but generated his thinking by studying another fluid – water.
Using water as his testing medium, Bernoulli found a very interesting
and repeatable phenomena – he found that as the speed of a fluid
increases in a tube (i.e. water or air) the pressure it exerts on
the sides of the tube actually decreases. |
