PROPULSION COMPONENTS |

Under normal temperature conditions, the
fuel and oxidizer, which are mixed together into a propellant grain,
will not burn until exposed to a source of heat. Some type of igniter
is used to initiate the burning.
Once the fuel starts to burn, a "flame front" is produced in the combustion
chamber, which moves into the propellant. Unlike a liquid fueled engine,
once the fuel starts burning, it will proceed until all the propellant
is consumed. The hot exhaust gasses produced in the combustion chamber
are passed through to the nozzle, which accelerates the flow outward. |
