MAIN PROPULSION COMPONENTS

The purpose of both solid and liquid rocket engines is identical: to produce thrust. However, a considerable difference exists in the way each burns its fuel to produce this thrust.

The much older and simpler design of the two is the solid rocket. In a solid rocket, the main engine components are the combustion (or firing) chamber and the nozzle, located downstream from the combustion chamber.
