ESOC (European Space Operations Center) Darmstadt, Germany. The ESOC serves as mission control for most ESA space projects and it typically juggles half a dozen projects at a time via a worldwide network of tracking stations. During project planning, the ESOC advises on the orbits and ground links. The use of Meteosat images for weather forecasting and climate research began here in Darmstadt, until Eumetsat opened for business. Hazards of space debris, the many thousands of fragments of space hardware that orbit the Earth, are also under ESOC’s domain. |
