OTHER INTERNATIONAL SPACE PROGRAMS

To help China meet its needs in space technology, the Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) and the China Aerospace Corporation (CASC) were established in June 1993 to promote space activity that would be profit based, and independent of Chinese government funding.

China's first experimental spacecraft "Shenzhou" (meaning "Magic Vessel" or "God Ship" in Chinese), completed a 21-hour space voyage on November 21, 1999. Launched atop a new model Long March 2F booster, the unmanned spacecraft consisted of propulsion, return, and orbit modules.
