Solving a System of Equations with Three Unknowns
SOLVING A SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS WITH TWO UNKNOWNS
There are a number of ways to solve a system of equations with two unknowns.

The first method that we will use is the substitution method.

Let’s solve for x and y by substitution.
  1. 2x + 3y = 18
  2. x – y = -1
Choose the easiest equation to work with to solve for either x or y.

Choose equation (2), then
x – y = -1 → x = y – 1.
