Solving a System of Equations with Three Unknowns
SOLVING A SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS WITH TWO UNKNOWNS
Again using the easiest equation to work with, solve for x, when y = 4.
  • x = y – 1
  • x = 4 – 1 = 3
  • x = 3 when y = 4
  • (3, 4)
Check:

(1) 2x + 3y = 18 →
  2(3) + 3(4) = 6 + 12 = 18
(2) x – y = – 1 →
  3 – 4 = – 1
