ELECTRONIC
COMPONENTS - THE CAPACITOR |
|
The capacitor is a passive component
whose function is to store electricity, or electrical energy. It is
also employed as a filter, which it does by passing alternating current
and blocking direct current.
Capacitance is measured in units called FARADS. A one-farad capacitor
stores one coulomb charge when one volt is applied across the terminals
of the capacitor.
However, the farad is actually a very large unit of measure, capacitance
is usually expressed in smaller terms such as the micro- or picofarad. |
