THE
MERCURY PROGRAM |

Following the last flight, NASA had a listing
of significant findings from the medical operations of the Mercury program
to work with for future missions. These included:
- No evidence of significant degradation of pilot function attributable
to space flight.
- Inflight sleep was possible.
- Insignificant radiation doses received by the astronauts.
- No evidence of abnormal sensory, psychiatric, or psychological response
for the astronauts.
- Following missions of 9 and 34 hours duration, a rise in heart rate
and fall in blood pressure was troubling.
