THE
RUSSIAN RESPONSE |
|
The Russian Space Program, through their
Luna and Soyuz launches, remained a real contender in the space race
through much of the Apollo Program. However, after the tremendous success
of the Apollo 11 mission, the world’s attention shifted towards the Americans.
In 1969, after it was clear that the United States had won the race to the Moon,
the Kremlin, under the leadership of Brezhnev, ordered the use of R-7 Soyuz and
Proton rockets in the development of a space station instead.
