THE
SOVIET SIDE |
|
The Vostok missions generated valuable
information on weightlessness, and the concept of rendezvousing in space.
- Vostok 2 expanded the database regarding exposure to weightlessness.
- Vostok 3 and Vostok 4 were sent into space within
a day of each other and came as close as 3 miles to each other while
in orbit.
- Vostok 6, carried the first female into space, cosmonaut
Valentina Tereshkova. It would be 19 years before another woman followed
her.
The Soviets were ready to move on to programs with multiple cosmonauts in a single
spacecraft. |
