THE GEMINI PROGRAM

The next Gemini missions, while successful in their objectives, were less exciting. One consequence of the Gemini Project was that the public began to view space launches as more commonplace due to their increased frequency.

While the Gemini 5 mission set a new duration record, the mission wasn’t very dramatic.

The next mission, Gemini 6, included a rendezvous with Gemini 7, and demonstrated the feasibility of orbital rendezvous and docking. The Gemini 8 mission claimed the first docking in space, linked with an Agena rocket. However the two went into an unexpected spin, burning 70 percent of its fuel and forcing an early mission end.
