THE
GEMINI PROGRAM |
|
Another set-back touched the mission of
Gemini 9. The original crew members were killed while flying in a NASA
T-38 training aircraft. The airplane crashed into a building that housed
the spacecraft that was to carry the two into space. They were killed
instantly, and 14 people on the ground were injured.
The new, re-organized mission became Gemini 9A, to show that there had
been a change in the mission. The changes would eventually determine
who would first set foot on the lunar surface. |
