THE
APOLLO PROGRAM |
|
Altogether, there were eleven manned flights
in the Apollo program, with nine traveling to the Moon. Six of these
flights resulted in manned missions to the lunar surface, with a total
of twelve men walking on the Moon.
The final three flights of Apollo carried the Lunar Rover Vehicle (LRV),
which allowed the astronauts to travel further on the Moon’s surface
and to explore terrain that was too rough for the Lunar Module to land
upon.
The last Apollo manned flight to the Moon launched on December 7, 1972.
