INTRODUCTION: Overview

You will learn how Newton's Laws of Motion govern the operation of a rocket engine--and which Law governs rocket propulsion and why.

The major components of a rocket engine and how they each contribute to its propulsive force (thrust) will be presented.

You'll study the definition of the rocket thrust equation, how an engine's components affect thrust, and how changes to them impact rocket design.

Finally, you will learn about some of the factors involved in selecting the right propellant for a specific mission.
