THE LUNAR LANDERS

In the mid-60s, the Americans were devising their own lunar soft lander. Specifically, the Americans wanted to determine precise landing sites for the future Apollo missions.

In addition to the Ranger Program, NASA devised the Surveyor Program to continue research about the lunar surface. Surveyor had seven flights all together, and returned the most usable data on the lunar surface to scientists and engineers back on Earth.
