THE APOLLO PROGRAM

The remaining Apollo missions gathered more information about the Moon and continued to capture the imagination of the world. Apollo 12 (AS-507), launched on November 14, 1969. During the mission the crew collected parts from Surveyor 3 in the Ocean of Storms and brought back samples from the lunar surface.

Apollo 13 (AS-508), launched on April 11, 1970, suffered a mishap when an oxygen tank exploded and caused the craft to lose its supply of electricity, light, and water, resulting in an uncomfortable, and terrifying ride home. Despite an almost ten-month gap before the launch of Apollo 14 (AS-509) on January 31, 1971, the crew successfully conducted two EVAs, deployed ALSEP experiments, and collected Moon rocks.
