An airplane jet engine is also a chemical engine. It is similar to
a car engine in that it mixes fuel (gas from internal tanks) with oxidizer
(atmospheric air).
However, it differs significantly from a car engine in how it delivers
the propulsive force. A jet engine delivers its propulsive energy directly
in the form of exhaust gases (thrust) from a combustion chamber, through
a nozzle, and out the engine exit.
