THE
CIRCUITS - OPEN CIRCUIT |
|
With components and schematics introduced,
the next step is to look at how circuits function – or in the
case of an open or short, DON”T function!
A circuit is said to be OPEN when a break exists in a conducting pathway.
Although an open occurs whenever a switch turns off a circuit, an
unwanted open may also develop. To restore operation, it must be located,
its cause determined, and the repairs made.
Sometimes the defect is easily found, such as visually finding a burned
out resistor, or other obvious damage. Other defects require the use
of test equipment to repair, such as a break in wire hidden by insulation
or the melted element of an enclosed fuse. |
