PARTICULATE CONTAMINANTS: PARTICULATE CONTAMINANTS

Particulate Contaminants are defined as a particle or particulate existing as a minute piece of matter and having an observable length, width and thickness, as measured in microns. A micron in turn, can be defined as a millionth of a meter, a thousandth of a millimeter or 39.4 millionths of an inch.

To express this in everyday terms, most people, with good lighting, can see a particle measuring about 20 microns - about the size of the dust particles you’ve seen in a ray of sunlight shining through a window.

One eighth of a inch equals almost 5 million microns.
