CONTROL & DESIGN STANDARDS: SURFACE CONTAMINANTS

Many facilities provide specific guidance regarding surface cleanliness levels. An example is the Kennedy Space Center’s "Specification for Surface Cleanliness of Fluid Systems" (KSC-C-123H). Here, standards are outlined to establish surface cleanliness levels, test methods, cleaning or packaging requirements, and inspection procedures. As with the MIL STD 1246, cleanliness levels for a given area are set by a maximum allowable number of contaminants.
