The other category, non-volatile residue, is a little harder to describe.
Technically, it’s the soluble or suspended material along with the
insoluble particulate matter remaining after evaporation of a filtered
volatile liquid. In other words, it’s the material left behind after
a liquid evaporates.
The most common source of NVR contaminants is from
the cleaning solvents used to clean equipment and products. If you’ve
ever cleaned a dirty window, only to later notice the streaks left
behind by the cleaner,
you’ve seen NVR.
