Consider the airflow in a completely empty room. With nothing to block
its path, the flow of air is steady and even. But with equipment and
personnel inside, the airflow becomes violently disrupted. The result
is a turbulent air pattern known as a "vortex".
Acting like a miniature
tornado, contaminants are drawn up into these turbulent areas and resettled
widely throughout the room. Although
not completely preventable, we can position people, equipment and work
areas to minimize this threat.
