CONTROL & DESIGN STANDARDS: AIRFLOW

For Class 100 and cleaner facilities, the effort taken to minimize the vortex effect is probably the single most important design factor. To accomplish this, high efficiency filters are installed in the ceiling, directing the air in a steady downward flow. Simultaneously, the exhaust is expelled through a raised perforated floor.

This means that air is constantly being fed down on personnel and equipment in the room, and drawn out the floor, greatly reducing any vortex effect.
